The 3rd Digital Twin International Conference (DigiTwin 2023) was held from October 11th to 13th, 2023, with remarkable success. Under the guidance of the Digital Twin International Advisory Committee, this conference was hosted by Paris-Saclay University, ENS Paris-Saclay, the Digital Twin journal, and the Taylor & Francis Group, and co-organized by the Digital Twin International Research Center at Beihang University, S.mart, SAGIP, GDR MACS, and IRT SystemX. DigiTwin 2023 embraced a hybrid format: hands-on workshops, a closed session, and the awards ceremony were conducted offline, while the opening and closing ceremonies, along with all technical reports, were accessible virtually via Zoom and Tencent Meeting. DigiTwin 2023 exhibited cutting-edge advancements in digital twin technology and attracted over 2,100 experts and scholars from around the world, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of digital twin technology.

Under the theme "Digital Twin Is Changing the World," DigiTwin 2023 brought together renowned scholars from around the globe to share cutting-edge research, explore technological advancements, and enhance international collaboration to promote technological and engineering innovation and development in the field of digital twin.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Nabil Anwer, the chairman of the DigiTwin 2023 Conference and a professor at Paris-Saclay University in France. In addition, Professor Andrew Y.C. Nee, Honorary Advisor of the Digital Twin journal and a professor at the National University of Singapore; Mr. Eng Guan Ang, General Manager of the Taylor & Francis Publishing Group; and Professor Tao Fei, co-chairman of the DigiTwin 2023 Conference, founding editor in chief of the Digital Twin journal, and a professor at Beihang University, delivered welcome address respectively.

Keynote

The lineup of keynote speakers at DigiTwin 2023 included six distinguished individuals, including Alain Bernard, a member of the French National Academy of Technologies, and CIRP Fellow Professor S. K. Ong from the National University of Singapore. These keynote speakers brought their unique insights and diverse perspectives to DigiTwin 2023.

CIRP Fellow, Professor S.K. Ong from the National University of Singapore, delivered the first keynote speech titled “Enabling Tools for Human-Machine Interaction”, wherein Professor S.K. Ong introduced the current research status and future trends of human-machine interaction.

Professor Alain Bernard, a member of the National Academy of Technologies of France and a CIRP Fellow from the University of Nantes, delivered a keynote speech titled "Foundations of the Digital Twin Concept and Applications”, where Professor Bernard discussed the development, evolution, and fundamental technologies of digital twins, as well as their applications.

MathWorks engineers Lame Itanl and Moubarak Gado jointly delivered a keynote speech titled “Designing and Implementing Digital Twins”, wherein they introduced modeling methods for digital twins and discussed the implementation of MATLAB/Simulink in the modeling process.

Dr. Zhen Xiang from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign delivered a keynote speech titled “Ensuring Trustworthiness of Downstream Machine Learning Models against Unsecured Data for Digital Twins”, where Dr. Xiang introduced the latest research on the trustworthiness and security of machine learning models for digital twin data.

Professor Zhiguo Zeng from Paris-Saclay University in France delivered a keynote speech titled “Why PHM has HM? And How to Achieve That Through Digital Twin”, wherein Professor Zeng provided a detailed discussion of digital twin technology and its application in PHM.

Professor Hu Tianliang from Shandong University delivered a keynote speech titled "Digital Twin for Machine Tools: From Concept to Application," where Professor Hu introduced the concept, implementation methods, and key technologies of digital twins for machine tools.

Sessions

Within the three-day conference, DigiTwin 2023 featured 14 sessions in which 95 experts and scholars delivered impressive technical reports on a wide range of topics, including digital twin theory, concepts, and key technologies; manufacturing systems; digital twin networks; additive manufacturing; healthcare innovations; as well as prospective applications.

Awards and Closing Ceremony

The awards ceremony was held on October 13th in a hybrid format.

The awards selection process was coordinated by Professor Liu Xiaojun from Southeast University, and hosted by Professor Nabil Anwer, the chairman of DigiTwin 2023 Conference and a professor at Université Paris-Saclay in France.
